More Goaltending

I got a bit of practice time on the ice tonight after all the games were through. A few guys from the rink and a couple friends from past and present teams hung around to put some shots on me. I did much better than I did in the previous two games. I guess that’s to be expected though as you don’t really get the opportunity to test/try/practice in a game setting. I started working on my lateral movement and keeping my paddle down. In the 45 minutes I was out there I made a huge improvement. I still need lots of work obviously. I’ve got to work more on using my stick to play the puck, pushing off while down, and making myself big so that there is less target. With any luck this little practice session might happen again… I hope… I need it.

I did learn that I am going to have to start stretching daily. My groin is tore up right now.

Goaltending

I had my second game in net over the weekend. Our regular goalie had to take the night off so I stepped in to sub for him. It’s a B level league which is not where I should be playing to begin with… but I did it anyways knowing that I would surely lose. I just wanted to get some ice time. As you can expect it was pretty ugly. I lost the game 9-4 and probably had a save percentage of less than .400. When I say “I lost”, I mean it! I let in some of the ugliest goals. I did however manage to make a phenomenal glove save while stretched out and reaching back towards the post. It’s about the only thing I did right! Oh well, it’s to be expected.

Anyways, I got some of my first action photos…

NOT SO OK:

How NOT to do it!
